Formation and purpose
VICS is a collaborative venture between Melbourne, Monash and RMIT Universities with financial support from a Victorian Government Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Infrastructure Grant.
The founder’s vision is that VICS will become the leading multi-campus institute in Australia for teaching and research in the chemical sciences, having a critical mass of expertise and resources and recognized internationally for the quality and breadth of its research and the outstanding opportunities provided by its educational programs.
Areas of Operation
VICS has established activities in four areas, which are referred to as 'themes':
- Drug Discovery and Chemical Synthesis
- Chemistry Education and Outreach
- Environmental Solutions
- Molecular Analysis and Dynamics

Location
VICS is co-located on four metropolitan University campuses; the University of Melbourne (Parkville), Monash University (Clayton), Monash University (VCP Parkville) and RMIT University (City campus).
Resources:
VICS has a combined academic and technical staff of over 90, working in long established internationally recognized University departments with broad expertise across the chemical sciences and access to some of the most modern scientific instruments in Australia.
