Daniel Barron Job Title: Packaging Technologist Company: McCormick Foods Year Graduated & Degree: Applied Chemistry Undergraduate Degree 1997 Daniel Barron always had an interest in science, especially chemistry during high school and wanted to take it further to try and understand more about it. To his amazement studying chemistry opened up an array of different fields that he never dreamt was possible. As a graduate, Daniel obtained his first job in the food industry as a Quality Assurance Technician where he set up and maintained quality control measures. He now works as a Packaging Technologist for McCormick Foods, Australia . His main responsibilities are ensuring all packaging items are suitable to McCormick's production lines and products, and taking care of optimization projects for packaging items as well as working closely with suppliers and account managers. One achievement Daniel is particularly proud of is his association with the implementation of McCormick's new Flip Top spice jar lids. He chaired a cross functional team to implement the project in the business – a task he found immensely challenging. Daniel plans to do further study in the packaging technology field but he has also recently taken advantage of his employer's own in house program that is aimed at developing new skills in employees by giving them exposure to major business projects. Becoming an Emeritus member of this program is another of Daniel's proud career achievements. For now, according to Daniel the best thing about studying chemistry is that it has given him the opportunity to work in a career where he is challenged by projects that he enjoys, as well as working with different people throughout the business. |
